Goldensides Studio is now accepting applications for Sound School, a 10-week, hands-on studio class designed for people who want to feel more confident recording music and working with sound.
Sound School is a program for a small group of musicians, artists, and curious sound-makers who want to better understand how recording works in a real studio environment. It is not a lecture series and it is not about doing things “the right way.” The focus is on demystifying the studio, building practical skills, and making recording feel approachable.
If studio gear has ever felt intimidating, confusing, or just out of reach, Sound School is meant to change that.
What to Expect
Workshops, not classrooms
Participants will take part in workshops led by experienced engineers and producers who share how they actually work, from microphone choices and signal flow to session planning and problem-solving.
A guided, low-pressure process
The program is facilitated by Studio Coordinator, Alex MacNeil, at Goldensides Studio. Rather than formal instruction, the emphasis is on shared exploration, discussion, and learning by doing. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, try things out, and learn alongside one another.
State-of-the-art studio access
Throughout the program, participants can book time at Goldensides Studio for their own projects at a significantly discounted rate of $10/hour, helping make recording accessible and hands-on.
A small, engaged cohort
Sound School is intentionally limited in size. 6-8 participants will be selected for the 2026 season. Learning alongside a focused, supportive group helps create an environment where people feel comfortable experimenting and growing their skills.
