Announcing Our 2024 Songwriter In Residence: Cherrie Laurel (AB)

DCMF is thrilled to announce Cherrie Laurel as our 2024 Songwriter in Residence.

Cherrie Laurel is the solo project of Edmonton-based artist Brittney Rand. Brittney is an accomplished electronic music artist, sound recordist, and composer trained in digital music production. Her music has been featured in independent shorts, advertisements, and feature-length films and performed live on stages across North America. In 2013, Brittney co-founded electronic duo Mu, gaining international acclaim with their album ‘II’. After several years with Mu, Rand established her solo project, Cherrie Laurel, releasing ‘A Furnace, A Fire’ in 2018.

Throughout her residency, Brittney will be working on new music, incorporating field recordings captured in and around Dawson City. Dawsonites will have the opportunity to work with and learn from Brittney via a series of workshops. More event details will be posted here as they become available.

Meanwhile, DCMF and KIAC are teaming up to present Cherrie Laurel in concert on Friday, January 12th at the KIAC Ballroom / Dënäkär Zho. Bird Feet will open the show. See below for more details. We are excited to introduce Dawson City to this exceptional artist.

This program would not be possible without the support of our partners Klondike Institute of Art & Culture (KIAC), Parks Canada Klondike National Historic Sites, and the North Highway Klondyke Music Society. Thanks also to the Government of Yukon and the Government of Canada for their ongoing support of our programming.
